Ka'anohiokala Pe'a was born and raised on the island of Hawai`i in Hilo.
Nurtured by his parents, he developed strong family values and was always taught to serve and show love to others. When there is time to enjoy the environment known to him as therapy, Ka'anohiokala can be found in the water surfing, swimming, sailing, and paddling. When not in the water, this active Hawaiian is running, jogging, and bicycling. He also enjoys reading books or magazines to gain knowledge for self-improvement. He is married to a wonderful queen named Lia that bore three princesses, Huala`i, Ihiapaenu`u, and Nuhiwawehilani.
In his family, he grew up with massage known as, “Lomilomi.” However, there were many different varieties of it. His father, George (Keoki), practiced it and encouraged by his oldest brother, John, who was influenced by his grandmother and grandfather. As Ka'anohiokala recalled, the style of lomilomi he was brought up with similar “quick release,” which means to get rid of the pain as quickly as possible. He never thought of following his father’s footsteps until later in his years.
Eventually, he took interest in becoming a Licensed Massage Therapist. He then obtained an Associate’s degree and decided to continue in the massage practice. In his quest to serve family wellness, he has become trained and certified as a Certified Infant Massage Teacher, Certified Pediatric Massage Therapist and has advanced training in working with children who are diagnosed on the Autism Spectrum.
Why do you feel you would be an asset to the Liddle Kidz Foundation volunteer team?
I have the ability to share the aloha spirit with the volunteer team, and most of all the children. With this aloha spirit, I am able to connect with massage and apply these techniques to those in need.
Why would you like to participate in this outreach event?
I desire to expose myself to work and provide care to children with a variety of pediatric conditions. In order for me to progress in the field of pediatric massage, I feel studying with Tina Allen through this program will help me to gain valuable knowledge and experience.
