Elizabeth Schroeder is a Licensed Pediatric Occupational Therapist with additional certification in sensory integration, Licensed Massage Therapist, Certified Pediatric Massage Therapist and Certified Infant Massage Teacher from Overland Park, KS.
She has had the privilege of working at Children’s Mercy Hospital since 2008, a place where she feels supported to continue to learn, increasing her own knowledge to provide always better treatments for her patients.
Her professional practice treats children living and growing with a variety of physical, neurological, and developmental challenges including Autism Spectrum Disorder, Down Syndrome, and Oral Motor and Feeding Difficulties.
Throughout her treatment, she uses family centered care to educate and encourage a sustainable home environment that would allow the child and family the confidence to build a springboard to continue developing from.
As an adjunct instructor at Rockhurst University and Wellspring School of Allied Health, her skills allow her to share her knowledge with healthcare privider and medical professionals from a variety of backgrounds.
In 2013, following her certifications through Liddle Kidz Foundation, Elizabeth was able to bring awareness into her pediatric hospital setting for trauma-informed care.
She continually collaborates with pediatricians, psychologists, and other healthcare professionals to evaluate and treat children who have been victims of trauma. This trauma can come in many forms including environmental, community, or non-accidental personal abuse and neglect.
This has been a passion of Elizabeth’s, to help be the voice and advocate for these children to get the physical rehabilitation and trauma-informed touch therapy needed to recover and break the cycle of violence.
In her free time she loves to travel, enjoys playing with her 6 nieces and nephews, digging in an ever-growing garden, which she can make delicious salsa and marinara sauce from, and keeping her dog, Sassy out of trouble!
Why do you feel you would be an asset to the Liddle Kidz Foundation volunteer team?
I am a team member on a multidisciplinary group in the hospital setting which evaluates children who have had trauma exposure. I am experienced with working with patients with ugly histories or even just non-traditional; this is frequently something that is overwhelming or 'too sad' for providers to hear about and work with. I am comfortable and passionate about educating caregivers and providers on how to provide trauma informed care.
However in addition to my massage therapy background, my experience and training allows me to provide information to caregivers regarding feeding, development, trauma informed care, and positive sensory stimulation
Why would you like to participate in this outreach event?
I am passionate about child development. Children are our future and good touch is imperative to the development of happy healthy adults.
There are millions of infants and children worldwide who are struggling to live to their fullest potential. Would you like an opportunity to bring nurturing touch and pediatric massage to orphaned and displaced children around the globe?
Do you wish to share your skills with children who are affected by Cerebral Palsy, AIDS/HIV, landmines, Agent Orange, developmental disabilities, genetic birth defects, mental and emotional trauma?
Just ask yourself . . . can one person make a difference?
Take this moment to make a difference in the life of a child.
Apply now to be part of our next international volunteer team . . .you too, can be a Liddle Kidz Global Ambassador!
