Ashley Sahota is a Registered Massage Therapist (RMT), Certified Pediatric Massage Therapist and Certified Infant Massage Teacher from Vancouver, BC. She graduated from the West Coast College of Massage Therapy in British Columbia, Canada in 2013.
Upon discovering the many benefits that Massage Therapy could offer not only to adults but also to children, Ashley discovered an interest in caring for pre-natal mothers and to aid with the development of healthy babies; this interest quickly shifted to a desire to work with the children themselves, providing pediatric Massage Therapy as a key part of healthy development.
Since graduating, Ashley has been working as part of a multidisciplinary team at Strawberries and Sunshine Healing Centre working with families and children to promote improved health and education.
Ashley has received additional training in neurofunctional development, which has aided her in providing excellent care for children with Autism, Sensory Processing Disorder (SPD), Attention Deficit Disorder and Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder (ADD/ADHD).
In January 2015 Ashley met Tina Allen, and through her courses became a Certified Infant Massage Teacher (CIMT) and Certified Pediatric Massage Therapist (CPMT). These tools enable Ashley to help more families in a greater capacity as both a therapist and teacher so that they may provide massage at home and see greater benefits.
Ashley is very passionate about her work, and excited to have this opportunity to bring massage and healing to more children. She believes that every child should be given the chance to benefit from massage as they grow and develop.
Why do you feel you would be an asset to the Liddle Kidz Foundation volunteer team?
I am an asset because of my work experience, my unique training in neurodevelopment, teamwork skills, and finally my joy and excitement to be in this field! In the clinic I work with a wide range of kids anywhere from ‘typical’ to kids diagnosed or labeled with ADD/ADHD, sensory processing disorder, and on the autism spectrum.
I am part of a team of health care professionals that work with children and their families. My role is to provide Massage Therapy and perform sensory assessments, seeing if they may have retained any primitive reflexes affecting their sensory systems. I then get to do integrative exercises and games with them that help to create new neural pathways, integrating these reflexes. We all work together as a team making sure the child gets the best care possible!
Why would you like to participate in this outreach event?
This is my passion! I’ve been fortunate enough to have seen the benefits of Massage Therapy for children; I love seeing the difference it can make and am so excited and grateful to be given a chance at this opportunity to give back in my area of interest.
