The Philippines is a vast group of more than 7,000 islands located in Southeast Asia. It's amazing capital city, Manila, is world famous for its sparkling waterfront promenade and centuries-old charm. People in the Philippines have a rich culture full of tradition and the importance of family. However, just as in any country, the Philippines has areas of extreme poverty and underserved populations who have great needs for additional health care and support.
Many children still feel the aftermath of Typhoon Haiyan and the recent Typhoon Hagupit. One of the most powerful tropical storms on record, Typhoon Haiyan (Yolanda) caused tremendous damage when it struck the Philippines in November 2013. More than 6,000 people were killed. Thousands of homes were destroyed. Over 14 million Filipinos, including nearly 6 million children, were affected.
More recently in December 2014, category 3 storm,Typhoon Hagupit (Ruby) made landfall in the Philippines. Early estimates believed more than 1 million people were affected, with 400,000 of them being children.
The Liddle Kidz Foundation Global programs support children who due to illness, disease and unsanitary conditions suffer to maintain regular health. Our programs support children living in these conditions with the necessary touch therapy to encourage healthy weight gain, nutrient absorption and appropriate development of mind, body and spirit. In these cases, we work to overcome these disparities by providing education and consistent nurturing care.
